Preoperative therapy, including Manual Lymphatic Drainage and Myofascial Therapy, helps prepare your face and/or body for surgery.

MLD, Manual Lymphatic Drainage, is a gentle technique that stimulates the lymphatic system, also known as your immunity system, aiding in waste and excess fluid removal at the site of your upcoming surgery.

Myofascial Release Therapy targets adhesions, tension, and old scarring, promoting improved circulation and tissue health.

Together these therapies help to reduce inflammation, swelling, and bruising, which can help minimize the risk of complications and optimize your surgical outcome.

Additionally, deep breathing and meditation promote relaxation, reduce anxiety, and help you achieve a more relaxed and prepared mindset.

Combining these three effective modalities during the days leading up to surgery can help ease stress and worry, promoting a sense of calm and trust in your decision to have surgery.

You may have questions about recovery. Communicating with us about your upcoming surgery and any concerns can ease preoperative anxiety. If we don’t have an answer, we’re happy to contact your surgeon’s office and ask, although we always recommend you create clear lines of communication with your surgeon. We can assure you they want this too!

Visiting our clinic preoperatively will also ensure you’re already acquainted with our location and suite, creating a sense of comfort and familiarity. This eliminates the added stress of finding a new place fresh out of surgery and allows you to focus solely on your recovery.

In addition to our services, we offer recommendations based on years of patient feedback. These recommendations include details like preparing the proper recovery set up at home, hiring an overnight companion if living alone, preoperative colonics, immune system boosters, nutrition advice, and more.

We can also refer you to skilled surgeons if you have yet to choose one.

Our post-operative therapy enhances recovery using Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) and scar tissue therapy to address common surgical side effects. We focus on reducing numbness, nerve damage, swelling, bruising, and pain. Additionally, we manage scar tissue and work to restore range of motion while minimizing lumps, buckles, and adhesions.

Initial Treatment:
Therapy begins 2-7 days after surgery, with 1-3 appointments per week. We consistently treat the affected areas, monitor for complications, and address any concerns. We start with MLD to reduce inflammation and swelling, which accelerates healing and alleviates bruising, numbness, and pain.

Goals:
Our therapy aims to reduce inflammation, enhance aesthetics, and improve flexibility. We address issues like incision pulling and uneven results caused by scar tissue and swelling to achieve a smoother, more natural appearance. Specialized care prevents and treats scar tissue, helping to avoid limitations in range of motion and issues such as the “lumpy liposuction look.”

Note: Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) alone does not address scar tissue.

Recommended by reconstructive, cosmetic, and orthopedic surgeons, our therapy is designed to optimize your recovery and help you achieve natural, beautiful results.

Post Op Maintenance Therapy

Missing our tender touch that sometimes feels more like a workout? Missing that “unstuck” feeling? Our Post Op Maintenance Therapy is just what you need to keep those healing vibes going! As patients near the end of their recovery journey, some ask, “Do I have to stop coming?” The answer is a resounding no! This service is perfect for those who have seen significant progress but want to maintain that wonderful momentum—discomfort and all!

Why Keep Coming Back?

Even after your initial recovery, you might still feel a bit of “stickiness” or have some lingering swelling that benefits from regular MLD sessions. If you’ve undergone procedures like abdominoplasty or hernia repair, you might experience tethering or mild discomfort. Plus, many incisions can feel much more pliable with ongoing treatments. Maintenance Therapy helps keep those feelings in check and enhances your overall comfort.

Supportive Environment

But it’s not just about the physical benefits! Many patients cherish the emotional support they receive from our team. Post-op can be a rollercoaster, and having a safe space to share your journey can make a world of difference. As one of our loyal patients put it, “I feel so much better when I leave here!”

What to Expect

In these sessions, we focus on maintaining your progress, ensuring your body feels great while preventing any future issues. We’re here to listen to your needs and keep you on the path to feeling your best.

Join Us for Ongoing Wellness

Why stop when you can keep the positive momentum going? Our Post Op Maintenance Therapy is all about nurturing your well-being, both physically and emotionally. During these sessions, you’re welcome to share any future surgeries or concerns you may have, ensuring you feel supported every step of the way. We’re here to support you on this journey and ensure that your healing continues—because feeling great is a lifelong pursuit!

Please note this is not a postoperative treatment. If you are a postoperative patient please schedule a "POST op Therapy for Face or Body" appointment.

The lymphatic system is part of the immune and circulatory systems. The system moves lymph, a clear fluid containing white blood cells, through your bloodstream. This fluid, which contains waste products and toxins, is crucial for maintaining a healthy immune system and overall wellness. The lymphatic system involves many organs, including the tonsils, adenoids, spleen, and thymus. Lymph nodes filter out bacteria and cancer cells and create white blood cells to fight infection. These nodes are found throughout the body (neck, armpits, groin, chest, and abdomen).

The lymphatic system is passive. It doesn't have the heart pumping fluid through it or valves (such as in the veins) to prevent the backflow of fluid. It relies on muscle contractions, movement, and gravity (such as elevating the arms or legs).

Manual Lymphatic Drainage is a specialized technique that promotes the flow of lymph fluid throughout the body. Using rhythmic, gentle stretches at the subcutaneous level of the skin, MLD stimulates the lymphatic system to enhance the body’s natural detoxification and healing processes. It’s important to note that MLD is not a massage; it requires clean, dry skin and does not involve the use of oils. Proper technique is essential for the therapy to be effective.

Drinking plenty of water, eating nourishing foods, engaging in regular physical exercise and breathwork, and receiving Manual Lymphatic Drainage can all support optimal lymphatic system function.

Hi, I’m Shelby

Welcome to my practice! I offer a diverse range of services, including pre and postoperative lymphatic drainage, scar tissue restoration therapy, and various movement and wellness techniques. My journey into this field began when Dr. Lawrence Berkowitz invited me to learn Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) to help his patients recover from surgery. While MLD was invaluable, I soon realized it wasn’t enough on its own. With Dr. Berkowitz’s support and encouragement, I developed a technique to restore traumatized tissue, refining this approach over the years to address scar tissue in cosmetic, reconstructive, and orthopedic cases.

In addition to my specialized therapies, I teach movement, posture, Yin and Baptiste Power Yoga, and Stick Mobility. I had the incredible opportunity to personally assist Baron Baptiste on location at yoga teacher trainings for eight years. This experience was a turning point for me, inspiring my journey into life coaching. I like to think of myself as a life hacker rather than a traditional life coach. If there were a handbook for simplifying life’s challenges, I’d be the one providing you with the highlights and tips to make things easier. Believe me when I say, it just doesn’t have to be that hard.

As a life coach, I’m dedicated to helping clients unlock their potential for healing and growth. My approach involves moving individuals, families, and couples forward from their very first session, using effective life hacks for communication, relationship repair, and mindset improvements. I’ve completed Level 1 of the Gottman Method for Couples Therapy and studied under David Deida, where I focused on masculine-feminine polarity and conflict resolution. I’m currently working on my Embodied Intimacy and Relationship Coaching certificate with The Embody Lab, which deepens my ability to support clients in enhancing relationship dynamics and personal growth. I create a safe space for open dialogue and provide practical exercises to support you in creating your best life.

I’m deeply grateful for my mentors: the late Keith Urban at Stanford for my education in movement, Baron Baptiste for his transformative yoga teachings, Dennis Dunphy for his expertise in Stick Mobility, and Dr. Lawrence Berkowitz for his inspiration, support, and unwavering faith in me.

Whether you’re here for post op therapy, movement, or life coaching, my goal is to offer you the tools and support you need to move forward with confidence and ease.
